Ministry of Health (Ministero della Salute, MoH)

The Italian Ministry of Health (Ministero della Salute, MoH) is the central organ of the National Health Services having as its responsibilities the orientation and planning in matters of health, as well as the definition of objectives for the improvement of the health conditions of the population. The MoH, through triennial national health plans, establishes the fundamental objectives of human care preservation, including preventive care; therapy and rehabilitation; veterinary health; workplace health prevention; and, food hygiene and safety.

Promotion of investment in research, education and innovation represents one of the MoH’s strategic objectives. The identification of priority areas of research at national level and their support through resource allocation policy has been essential for the MoH’s health policy research. The MoH recognises the needs of a research focused on bridging technologies and discoveries in the laboratory with clinical research and practice so that better public health can be achieved. To contribute to build upon existing capacities and tie national efforts to European initiatives, the MoH has joined EATRIS.
