Swedish Research Council (SRC)

The Swedish Research Council is a government agency under the Ministry of Education and Research. The Research Council has three Scientific Councils: one for Humanities and Social Sciences, one for Medicine and one for Natural and Engineering Sciences. It also includes a Committee for Educational Science and a Committee for Research Infrastructures.

The mission for the Scientific Council for Medicine is to support Swedish medical research of the highest quality including pharmacology, dentistry and care sciences. This area includes everything from experimental research on molecular mechanisms at the cellular level to population studies. The Council is funding collaboration grants for translational and interdisciplinary research. Its purpose is to boost and strengthen mutual collaboration spanning various research fields, including clinical research. We believe that clinical research is a prerequisite for successfully translating experimental basic research into improved health care and disease prevention.

The Swedish Research Council’s launched a Guide to Infrastructure in 2007 (2nd edition). The guide describes the long-term needs of research infrastructure for future Swedish research of the highest quality. It intends to provide a basis for discussion concerning financing of future infrastructure for research in Sweden and for participating in joint international research infrastructures.
