The Research Council of Norway
The Research Council of Norway has been established (in 1993) to serve as a common public administrative and allocating agency for all disciplines and segments within the research sector.
The Research Council also serves as a national strategic body for research, a meeting place and network builder, and a bridge-builder between Norwegian and international research.
In agreement with the overall objectives of the FP7 Capacities programme for research infrastructures, the Research Council of Norway supports optimized use and development of the best research infrastructures of pan-European interest. The Research Council has worked out a National Strategy for Research Infrastructure 2008 – 2017, which also includes priorities with respect to ESFRI projects. The overall aim of this work is to establish a substantial increase in research infrastructure funding.
The Research Council of Norway`s Policy for Medical and Health-related Research 2007 – 2012 encompasses activities from basic biomedical research to industry-oriented research and innovation. Certain challenges are given special focus, such as the need to better exploit the potential for cooperation implicit in translational research and cross-disciplinarity. Especially it is necessary to enhance the utilisation of Norway`s health registers and biobanks.
