Network expansion and new members

The European need for access to translational research infrastructure cannot yet be provided by the existing research infrastructure. The goal of the EATRIS Preparatory Phase is to therefore to plan and set up a new infrastructure accessible to all biomedical researchers in the European Union. Consequently, EATRIS is open to accept partners from European countries not yet represented in EATRIS to help pave the way of implementing a translational infrastructure in their respective country. However, this provides that the applicants fulfil the accession criteria agreed by the EATRIS consortium. To learn more about the accession criteria for new governmental and scientific partners please click here.

Moreover, it will not be possible to refund work of new partners in during the EATRIS preparatory phase. Furthermore, construction and support for their new infrastructure will have to be financed by the national governments of the participating countries. As a consequence, it is essential that participating countries have translational medical research on their political agenda. EATRIS has set up the policy that every country should be represented scientifically and politically. It is the role of the “Governmental Partner” to speak for the translational research funding policy of the country while the “Scientific Partner” should be able to represent the translational medical research scene in the country and give input into the construction of the EATRIS translational infrastructure. As the political backing of the EATRIS contribution of a country is essential, the expression of interest to join EATRIS should be put forward by the ministry which is in charge of translational research funding policy.
