Karolinska Institutet

Karolinska Institutet (KI) was founded in 1810 and is today one of Europe's largest medical universities with more than 6000 students and 2300 PhD students. It is also Sweden´s largest centre for medical training and research. KI performs research within all areas of biomedical science spanning from advanced biophysics and biochemistry over animal models to clinical research. Interactions between preclinical and clinical groups are promoted in the 22 departments situated in close proximity to and within three major hospitals in the Stockholm area. Taken together, the extensive collaboration between preclinical and clinical professionals as well as the broad know-how at KI within most fields of biomedicine makes KI a good example of a translational research center.
